Whychus Work Day

  • Meet at Sisters Ranger Station to carpool to Whychus

Let’s meet at the Sisters Ranger Station at 9:30 and we can carpool up there.  Our goal will be to install the new posts and “Stay on the Trail” signs, plus, the new small kiosk for the Overlook parking area.  I was up there yesterday to make sure that the Stay on Trails signs were still posted on the kiosks.  They were, but you can see the kiosk is a confusion of signs!  We want to get the Stay on the Trails signs on their own posts.  I made some new little sign holders called “birdcages” that we will mount the signs on. We want to put these in three critical areas.  The start of both the lower and upper Whychus Creek trail just beyond each kiosk plus the beginning of the Whychus Draw Trail.  The most impacted spots on the creek trail for the development of user trails is the rock climbing area near the lower trailhead, and the mid-section just below the overlook.  Now that hikers can use the Whychus Draw trail to get down to the creek trail, folks have been creating little trails in order to get to the creek.

Be sure to wear sturdy footwear and long pants and shirt, and bring gloves, water, lunch, etc.
